The Strength of Resolve

There are countless stories of people across the globe and throughout history who held an unyielding resolve and accomplished remarkable feats. Their stories are laced with opposition that challenged their efforts and moved to break their resolve; bringing their stories to life and making their victories even sweeter. Many of the best films feature a character whose resolve brought about not only their victory, but an unexpected personal clarity & growth as they fought to overcome both their extrinsic challenges and their own flaws and limitations. Whether real or fictitious, we all have our favorites that resonate with and inspire us in some way, and we carry a piece of their story with us.

There is something undeniable about resolve. There is authenticity in the wake of resolve. It is evident in ways that both inspire & intimidate. Resolve has no bias; no vision or venture is too big or small for it. Resolve doesn't waver, it doesn't back down. Resolve is grounded in a vision that sees well beyond the moment, while embracing every, single step along the way. It is, by definition, firm determination.

What I like about resolve is that it is strengthened by resistance. Much in the same way that we build muscle through physical training, we build resolve through resistance. The truth is, resistance rarely feels like an ally, and the battles we lose along the way can be disheartening. Sometimes we question ourselves and consider the possibility that maybe we aren't cut out to fill the shoes of our resolve. Without a clear path to success, it may seem like resistance is really a sign that it's time to throw in the towel; it's not meant to be. Those defining moments present the opportunity to call to mind the reason for our pursuit; our passion.

Passion is the unwavering devotion at the heart of resolve. It fuels the deliberate actions that refine & stregthen us. Passion drives a posture of pursuit, summoning unrelenting commitment, and creating the foundation that enables us to keep pressing forward in the face of resistance. Passion is innate. It is a part of who we are, and unshakeable by nature. The visibility & presence of our innate passion garners focus & energy, inviting both adversity & opportunity.
